Be a Light to Others
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16)
Once you become a follower of Christ, God wants to use you to be a light that points others to Him. He wants you to bring glory to Him so that others are drawn to Him, and want a relationship with Christ. You might be wondering, “How can I be a light to others?” Here are three ways God can use your life as a light to point people to Himself:
Are you currently doing these things as you walk with the Lord? Or are you realizing there is something you need to work on in your relationship with Him? Whatever it is that the Lord is telling you, listen closely and humbly to His guidance. Surrender your habits, time, and plans to Him, and watch how He uses your life as a light to guide others toward Christ.

He wants you to bring glory to Him so that others are drawn to Him, and want a relationship with Christ. You might be wondering, “How can I be a light to others?” Here are three ways God can use your life as a light to point people to Himself:
- Concern yourself with what’s on the inside. Christ- followers are much more concerned with what they look like on the inside than how they appear on the outside. They are not worried about pleasing other people or meeting the world’s standards. Instead, they live in such a way that they model their lives after the life of Jesus. If you want to be a light to others, be more concerned about what is on the inside. When you do, that will influence the way you look, act, speak, and behave on the outside; and people will see that you are different.
- Concentrate on intimacy with the Lord: Don’t be concerned with another person’s walk with the Lord. Don’t try to compare your relationship with God to theirs. Instead, focus on spending quality, intimate time with the Lord. Spend time alone with Him in His Word and in prayer. Develop a quiet time when you remove yourself from any distractions. Ask God to speak to you; and I promise He will honor that request and speak directly to your heart.
- Commit yourself to God’s timing and positioning. Many of us try to determine how we want our life to unfold. We have a plan that we want God to agree with, but that’s not how life works. God is not in the business of giving us what we want. Instead, He wants us to be aligned and positioned according to His will and His plan for us. When you let go of your plans and embrace the plans of God and trust in His timing, your life will shine like a light.
