He Is Alive!
So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. (Matthew 28:8-9)
He is alive! Make no doubt about it; Jesus Christ is alive! We recently celebrated His resurrection from the dead; this celebration needs to continue every day of our lives. When Jesus rose from the dead, things changed. Everything changed in the lives of His followers!
When Jesus was arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane, His followers fled. Simon Peter tried to go undercover but he was exposed. The only one who made it to the foot of the cross among His disciples was the youngest disciple, John. Everyone else was hiding in fear. Even after the report from the women, the disciples were found behind locked doors. It was only after Jesus appeared to the band of disciples that they began to live with boldness. That boldness would be powerfully evident at Pentecost.
The big question today is: What will it take for Jesus’ disciples to begin living like the first century disciples following the resurrection? When will we begin breathing with the reality of His presence rather than His demise? Locked doors are for people who live in fear; we should not live at that address!
“Dear Lord, empower me today to live as if I just saw you arisen from the dead. Open my lips and give me fresh opportunities to declare, ‘You are alive!’ ”
