Responding to the Gospel
So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. (1 Corinthians 10:31)
The Gospel of Jesus Christ is not just a message to be proclaimed; we must respond to the message. According to Scripture, several responses to the Gospel are required.
The first response is to fear God. People who sin have much to fear from God. We don't hear preaching or teaching today about the proper response and relationship of fearing God. Some people even say, “I don't fear God.”
Years ago, I visited with a man in my first pastorate. He had several issues of addiction in his life, but he was a wonderful, giving guy. I asked him, “Do you fear God?” He looked at me and chuckled. He said, “No, I really don't.” I said, “That's the problem.” He lived his life in such a way that he would lose his life in just a few years because he had no fear of God. The fear of God is not about avoiding what will happen if you don't honor God; you simply want to honor God. It is a reverence for the Lord.
The second response is to give God glory. The Scripture is clear when it says to honor and focus on the Lord. We are living in a day and time when politicians take glory for this achievement or that accomplishment. Many people are major self-promoters. Scripture tells us, however, to give God glory. After all, we would not have anything or be anything without Him. We are only able to live this life because of Him, therefore, He deserves the glory and praise.
The third response is to worship God. We worship Him who made all things. Believers worship God and honor Him, not only with their resources, but with their hearts, lives, and songs. Their priorities are on God because they are not only impressed by Him, but they are in awe of Him. They kneel before the One and only God, the Creator of all things.
Worship is very powerful in my life. When I get caught up in what I am experiencing, I focus on worshiping God and allowing Him to take care of all things.
I pray that you will incorporate each of these responses to the Gospel in your walk with the Lord – that you will fear God, give God glory, and worship God. He deserves it all!
