Are You Willing To Learn From Others?
In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. - 1 Peter 5:5-7
One of the most important aspects of developing a teachable spirit is applauding others. When you learn something from another person, even if they are a peer, you need to applaud them. If you don't applaud them, it says, “I don't want to give them credit.”
Now, I understand how hard this can be. One of the toughest things to do is to applaud someone who teaches you something, especially if they are the same age, or even younger than you. You might think you are in competition with them. Or that you should know more than them. But if you have the ability to applaud the insight from someone else, it says you have a teachable spirit.
Today’s key verse makes it very clear that God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble. If we are so proud that we think we can’t learn from other people, we’re in deep trouble. But if we have a humble, teachable spirit that pushes us to constantly be learning and growing, the Lord promises to show us favor.
How do you respond when you learn something from someone else, especially someone who is your peer or who is younger than you? Do you accept it graciously and humbly? Are you excited to learn new things, regardless of the source? Or do you default to pride? Do you stay set in your ways, struggling to have a teachable spirit?
I’d encourage you to think through and pray through these questions and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the true answers to you. And if there’s any pride in your heart, pray that He would replace it with humility so that you might have a teachable spirit.

I always wanted to learn from the elderly. I knew they knew more than me. I also take to heart something that I learn from a peer or someone younger than me. I am always willing to learn new things or a better way of doing things. I know that there is so much more for me to learn and grow in my Christian faith
LORD GOD Almighty, I ask YOU for the Wisdom to be open to the Guidance and Direction of The Holy Spirit every minute of My day. I need to be open to learning from My elders, My peers and even those younger. Thank You JESUS for My Salvation !
