Having A Spiritual Mindset

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. – Ephesians 6:12

Years ago, I was talking to one of my friends and he mentioned that he had a friend whose child was of preschool age. The little boy was overwhelmed with fear every night. His parents decided that there was something going on that needed prayer. They called a family prayer meeting; the father prayed for his son and prayed for the family. He prayed this very simple prayer. “Dear Lord, We know that there is some fear in my son's life right now. Lord, I pray however you want to do it, would you resolve that issue of fear in his life? Give him peace that you are in control. In Jesus' name, Amen.”

The boy went to bed with no disturbance that night. In fact, for several nights, there was no disturbance and no concern. So for the next several mornings, the little boy woke up with great joy.

One morning at breakfast, the father thought he would bring up the subject. He said, “Son, You know we prayed the other night that God would give you peace and let you know that He is in charge of everything. Is it going okay?”

The little boy replied, “Yes, sir. In fact, God sent an angel one night.” The father said, “What?” The boy went on, “He sent an angel and woke me up in the middle of the night. He was standing at the foot of my bed, and he was in bright silver armor, and he had a huge silver sword.”

“He said, ‘Come with me.’ So I got up and he took me to your room. And I saw standing beside you a big angel with a big sword standing right by you as you slept. And there next to mom was another angel lying beside her as she slept.” And then he said, ‘Come with me.’ And he took me to the window, and I looked outside from the second story, and I saw a giant angel with one foot in the driveway and one foot on the lawn. And he had a huge flaming sword standing guard over our house. And the angels said, ‘Do not worry. God has put us in charge of guarding you and your family.’ So, Dad, I know it's okay.”

Although you don't find biblical stories looking just like that, God does answer prayers like the one this family prayed. The boy saw something unlike anything he had ever seen on television. God gave him peace by giving the boy a spiritual perspective.

As believers, we need to have a spiritual mindset while we make a difference for the Kingdom of God. You need a spiritual mindset that there is another dimension more real than our physical dimension.

One day when you die, your eyes will be opened, and you will realize the reality and the foundation of that spiritual realm. Right now, as believers, we are encouraged to dwell with a spiritual mindset. In other words, we need to look at things differently than anyone else, just like this little boy did.
