A Posture Of Fear
For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. – 2 Timothy 1:7
Fear is a very common feeling for human beings. There always seems to be something that stirs up fear within us. But as followers of Christ, we’re no longer slaves to fear. We are children of God, and with that title comes strength and power over anything that might try to scare us.
However, just because we have God-given power over our fears, oftentimes we still succumb to our fears and worries. So what does a posture of fear look like? After all, we need to be able to recognize it in order to combat it. That’s what we’re going to be talking about over the next two days.
The first sign of a posture of fear is when you are consumed with your own weakness. When you believe the lie that there is no way out of what you’re dealing with, your focus is on your inadequacies and what you didn't have. You realize you can’t accomplish what you need to on your own, and that creates fear.
Fear is contagious. All it takes is one fearmonger to stand up and say, “We can't do that. We can't afford that. We shouldn't take this step that way. There is no way we can accomplish that. That will put us upside down.” When one person begins to breathe words of fear, it spreads like wildfire. I have watched this time and time again; one naysayer can infect an entire group of people. That one person or a handful of people can affect millions.
This is amazing, but fear is contagious. When people are consumed with what they cannot do, they are consumed with their own weaknesses. And that leads to a posture of fear rather than a posture of victory in Christ.
I pray you’ll come back tomorrow as we continue to talk about the characteristics of a posture of fear so that we can learn how to replace that posture with one of strength in Jesus.

May I look to Jesus for strength to overcome my fears. I am going to a church that has naysayers but God has stepped in to show them anything can be done. There needs to be more faith there
