Sharing Your Faith
Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:16-20)
As followers of Christ, we are called to share our faith and be a witness to the people around us. We are commanded to fulfill the Great Commission that Jesus outlined for us. (Matthew 28:16-20)
I understand that sharing your faith can be scary. You might be worried about what the other person will think of you. Maybe you get nervous talking about your faith, because you don’t think you have the knowledge to answer all of their questions. Regardless of what makes you hesitate about sharing your faith, remember this: you are not alone.
Jesus promises us that the Holy Spirit will be with us and guiding us, as we witness to the people around us. He tells us,
“When you are brought before the synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how to defend yourselves or what to say. For at that time, the Holy Spirit will teach you what you should say.” (Luke 12:11-12)
When the Holy Spirit lives in you, He will give you the words when you are communicating with someone about your faith.
However, you need to be prepared,
But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, (1 Peter 3:15)
We need to spend time with God, reading His Word and growing in our relationship with Him. This will prepare you to talk to others about Him. As you are preparing, please realize that God is not expecting you to act on your own power, knowledge, and ability. Your confidence should never be based on your ability to persuade someone, but rather how the Holy Spirit will use you and speak through you.
Ask the Lord today to give you boldness as a witness for Him. As you are having conversations about your faith, He will help you to be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
