Saying Yes To God’s Call
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. – Romans 10:17
In college, I was trying to find my way, and I didn’t know what God had for me. I had a double major in college (music and speech), and I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to sing or preach. I thought I got my answer when I was invited to be the Assistant Minister of Music at a megachurch in Houston. If I took this job, I would have the opportunity to direct a 300-voice choir, and the church broadcasted on TV!
On top of this opportunity being presented to me, I didn’t like preachers because I thought they were so fake. But by spending time with God, I soon developed a stronger desire to share the Gospel rather than share music.
So I prayed and said to God, “I give up. I surrender to whatever you want, Yes, Yes!” I sensed His presence and heard God’s voice. He said, “You know what I want.” I said, “Yes, Lord.”
He said, “It’s not going to be easy, but I will take care of you.” All I could say was, “Yes, Lord.” I was confident in that moment what He wanted me to do. He wanted me to preach.
Hours later in the middle of the night, the Lord spoke to my heart three times and said, “I want to show you something.” I knew He wanted me to open the Bible. So I opened the Bible to Exodus and started to read the call of God on Moses. The Scripture describes Moses’ many excuses. And as I read this story, the Lord said to me, “See, that is you. You have been making excuses for a long time. But I want you to put those excuses to the side and follow me.”
God will always confirm in His Word what your life has experienced. It’s important that you not do it the other way around. Don’t twist the Word to fit your experiences. Allow the Word to verify your relationship and experience with God. Thus began my journey, and your journey can begin as well if you lean into what the Lord is calling you to do!

Thank you for the word in Romens 10:17

I have learned to say yes to the Lord. He keeps surprising me
Thank you, pastor Dobbs for saying yes to the Lord!’s calling for you. Because you said yes, we are blessed and so many others to the glory of God our Father. Help us, LORD to always say yes to Your calling on our lives so that we and others may be blessed in Jesus name. Amen. ?
