When They Mock What Matters Most
"Some, however, made fun of them and said, 'They have had too much wine.' Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd..." (Acts 2:13-14)
Picture this: You're witnessing the most powerful outpouring of the Holy Spirit in history, and some people in the crowd start snickering. "They're just drunk," they say, rolling their eyes at the miracle happening right in front of them.
How would you respond? Would you get defensive? Start an argument? Take it personally?
Look at Peter's response. He didn't get offended. He didn't take it personally. Instead, he used their mockery as a springboard to share the Gospel! "These people are not drunk," he said. "It's only nine in the morning!" He made the mockers look foolish while opening the door to share about Jesus.
Here's what I've learned: When you're full of the Holy Spirit, He gives you peace in the middle of a firestorm. He turns confrontation into opportunity.
We live in a culture that loves to be offended. Social media thrives on outrage. Some ministries have built their entire platform on being caustic toward other believers. But that's not the way of Jesus.
When someone attacks your faith, when they mock what matters most to you, remember this: God can defend Himself. Your job isn't to get offended—it's to stay calm, stay loving, and look for the opportunity to share Christ.
The moment you get defensive is the moment you might miss winning someone to Jesus. Don't let offense rob you of the very thing God wants to use you for.
When they're being unkind, talk about the One who loves them. When they're being hostile, speak of the One who offers peace. God wants to use you, especially in those difficult moments.
