The Power of the Cross
For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel -- not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. (1 Corinthians 1:17-18)
When you take seriously the work that Jesus did on the cross, it will make a difference in your life. Amazingly, He exposed death and came alive from the grave. You want your life to make a difference. That happens through the power of the cross. You need to understand this important truth.
Do you remember what Jesus said? “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6) You cannot have a relationship with the Father, unless you come through the cross. When Jesus died on the cross, He did so to secure you. An evil, ungodly, sinful person cannot have a relationship with a Holy perfect God.
I don't care how many times you go to church, how many times you take communion, or how many times you have been baptized; they have no power. Whether you were baptized by sprinkling, or by immersion, that baptism has no power. That communion has no power. Those are outward expressions of what has happened on the inside.
You have had an experience with God through Jesus Christ, receiving what He has done for you on the cross. He shed His perfect, innocent blood to cover your sin. You can never become a child of God until you first realize that you are a sinner and you need covering. You need forgiving. Until you realize that you are lost, you cannot be saved.
The power of the cross can break down every stronghold in your life. Nothing should have any power over you, except the hand of Jesus. He wants you to live as a free person.
We need Jesus. We need to stay near the cross and find our identity to live this life. We need to find our purpose to live this life through the power of the cross. As you move through this week before Easter Sunday, focus on the cross, and anticipate Christ’s glorious resurrection!
