Praying for Our Country
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:1-4)
Yes, that is in the Bible! Regardless of your political affiliation, we are called to pray for those in authority. Do you get that? You may not agree with a particular elected official. You may be strongly opposed to everything for which they stand. In fact, what they may be doing personally and professionally is just the opposite of your belief system and values. Pray for them! Pray for our country, even when it is a challenge to do so!
Praying for others is a great prescription to combat a critical spirit. It is very difficult to intercede for someone while you are criticizing them. We have always lived in an environment of criticism, especially when it comes to governmental leaders. Isn’t it curious that Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit, encouraged believers in the first century to pray for the very leaders who would take his life?
Where will you go with this today? Will you simply ignore it or will you engage with it? I encourage you to begin right now to intercede for those governmental leaders who represent you in local, state, and national places of leadership. Call them by name and pray for them. Ask God to give them wisdom and discernment. Because our Lord has the power to turn hearts toward what He wants, ask Him to shape the decisions the leaders who represent you may make this next week.
Can you imagine what would happen if all believers stopped criticizing and started praying for our leaders? Our country would be much different than it is today! Don’t wait for them to lead you; take the lead and walk into heaven’s gates with the requests God impresses upon you. Do it right now! This is a great birthday gift for a nation that is in such a dire need for God’s Hand of blessing!

Amen to that. Our Lord and Savior who paid the price for our freedom, fill our hearts for love of our fellow man and the leaders You have put into place at this time in our Country. Forgive us as a Nation. Entreat us with Your Spirit and direct our path. Thank You, Father.
