Praying For Israel
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May those who love you be secure.” – Psalm 122:6
Yesterday, we began a discussion about why we as believers are to pray for and support the nation of Israel. If you missed yesterday’s devotion, I strongly encourage you to go back and read it. But for now, we’re going to continue on this topic and discuss four more reasons why we should support Israel.
The fourth reason is that our faith roots come through the Jewish people. There is no room for any animosity or opposition to the Jewish people. You need to thank the Lord for the Jewish people because our faith roots came from them. Our Christian faith is a Judeo-Christian faith. We wouldn't have one without the other.
The fifth reason we are to support Israel is that Israel resides on the land God gave them. God created the world, and it all belongs to Him. Specifically, the Promised Land was given to Israel. God made them stewards of that land. And just because the Jews were dispersed doesn't take away their ownership of the land. They still own it. It is still theirs because God gave it to them, and He hasn't changed His mind.
The sixth reason why we should pray for and support Israel is that supporting Israel is what we are to do, but it doesn’t mean we stand against all who oppose them! God wants every Palestinian to get saved. He wants every Scotsman to get saved. He desires every person who lives in Russia to get saved. God's plan is for all people to be saved. Therefore, when we support Israel, it doesn't mean that we are against everyone else who is not a Jew. God loves the whole world; He says that in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
We need to understand that you can support Israel without having to oppose everyone. Supporting Israel is what we are to do. When we support Israel, we stand against the evil forces that are behind the terror.
Finally, the seventh reason to support Israel is that when we support Israel, we stand on the prophecy of the Bible. The Old Testament prophesies say that God's plan is for the entire nation of Israel to be saved. They are going through a difficult time now. But ultimately Israel is one of the safest places to be. God says it will stand, even though it will see much opposition.
If you are a follower of Jesus, I hope that these seven reasons have been an encouraging and convicting reminder for you to pray for Israel and support them. May we stand behind this holy nation and pray for them every day until the return of Jesus Christ our Lord.
