Be Different
So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. (1 Thessalonians 5:6-8)
Jesus is coming again, and we need to be on guard. Paul wrote earlier in this chapter that the Lord will come like a thief in the night; it shouldn’t surprise us when He arrives. Because He is coming, we should live as if it could happen before you finish reading this devotional. In other words, be on guard and be different.
We are called to pursue Jesus Christ, and live for the Kingdom of God. Pleasing Jesus with our lives means that we refuse to live like the world. In today’s church, many people hold the same values as those who do not know God. They may love His Word and honor His Son, but they blend in with the crowd. We ought to be living differently than anyone else. We live for the King!
When we choose Kingdom living principles over fleshly principles, we will have a different gate to our step. Our temperament will be different and our entertainment choices will set us apart. As Paul writes, we will be sober-minded and suited-up, with faith protecting our core, and the hope of salvation protecting our mind. It sounds like we are in a war, doesn’t it? Yes, we are. At stake are the souls of millions of people who will enter eternity unprepared. It is time for God’s children to wake up and choose to be different, because they are different from the inside out. Answer the call now!
