Hide God’s Word In Your Heart
I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. (Psalm 119:11)
When I was in the fifth grade, I will never forget going to Vacation Bible School (VBS). The teacher asked us to do an amazing thing for fifth-graders. She said, “I want to tell you a story about some prisoners of war in World War II. They were trying to put the Bible together to read to each other.” In the Japanese prison camp where they were being held, they had no Bibles. Collectively, they started writing down Bible verses that they had memorized as children. Slowly, they began to piece together some Bible pages.
Our VBS teacher said, “I want you to do the very same thing. I want you to put together a Bible, as much as you can remember.” This was our task for the week. Each one of us wrote a verse that we remembered. We began to piece together the only Bible we had.
I don't know how much Bible you have in your heart, but if you want to keep your fire of faith alive, you need more than you have right now. If you lean upon the Word of God, it will keep you from leaning on people. If you lean upon the Word of God, it will keep you from leaning on your circumstances. When you lean upon the Word of God, you will find yourself leaning upon the Lord and no one else.
Let me ask you a question. How much of the Word of God do you know? If there was a time when you were separated from your Bible and you didn’t have access to the Internet, could you write down verses which God has placed in your heart? Do you have that catalog of the Word of God in your heart and in your mind? With that catalog and the Holy Spirit, you can recall the words when you need them. If you want to keep the fire alive in your heart, you need to get back into the Word.

Greetings: I certaily echo your thoughts sadlywe were not raised to memorize scripture but memeorize what was written in the 'catecism'. I have in a very late stage in my ife accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior. We witness and plat the seed through our rescue ministry and been ding s or twenty six years.
I had to memorize the 23rd Psalm when I was in the second grade to be able to receive my first Bible. Then one year when I was a grown up, I was teaching a class of 4th grade girls at Bible school. They were to learn a new verse every day. I decided that I had better learn those verses myself. I still memorize verses so that I will have them in my heart â¤
Pastor Dodd is saying we need to stay in the word and know it which comes from reading it and knowing Jesus. This means a daily relationship with Jesus applying God's word to our lives. There's no need to memorize anything- God's word comes to us when necessary by His will through the Holy Spirit. Luke 12:11-12 NKJV - "Now when they bring you to the synagogues and magistrates and authorities, do not worry about how or what you should answer, or what you should say. "For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say." When you lean on God, you will speak the truth when necessary. If you can't say anything good, (what comes from God is good) don't say anything at all. Wait for the Lord. Be of the same mind and do not worry about memorizing. Memorization is a solution to forgetfulness and used to impress people. What comes from the heart is God's grace and mercy.
