Disruption in Life
When John, who was in prison, heard about the deeds of the Messiah, he sent his disciples to ask him, “Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?” Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor. Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.” (Matthew 11:2-6)
John the Baptist is an incredible example of a disrupted life. John, a faithful servant of the Lord, who had been telling others about the coming Messiah, was thrown into prison. Suddenly, he was unable to minister to people the way he wanted. He was completely hindered from doing what he thought he was called to do.
Have you ever felt that way? I am guessing that everyone on this earth has found themselves in a situation where a disruption has occurred. Plans get devastated and life doesn’t turn out how we thought.
Why doesn’t life go the way we envisioned it? We made the right decisions, and we followed the rules. We were faithful in our relationship with God. Why do these disruptions still happen? Why do we get frustrated with God despite His past faithfulness in our lives?
This is another area where we can relate to John the Baptist. Remember, he baptized Jesus. He saw the Holy Spirit descend upon Christ as a dove, and he heard God’s voice. When he found himself in prison, his stability felt more like sinking sand. John the Baptist had been faithful in his service, and he had seen God’s faithfulness firsthand. Yet he still grew frustrated and discouraged in the midst of disruption.
Thankfully, Jesus never condemned John for questioning Him. Instead, He offered him comfort and affirmed his faithfulness. Jesus can offer you comfort in the midst of your disruption, too. If you are in a period when your life doesn’t look the way you want it to, turn to your Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He will give you peace and comfort that only He can give.

In the brokenhearted I know deep in my soul HIS mercy never fails
I'm there right now everything is not what I had hoped for the am
My life is definitely not what I expected it to be, yet I choose to follow Jesus. And to stay close to Him
Amen. His mercies never fail, they are new every morning. May the God of Hope fill us with all joy and peace in believing this Christmas season that we may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit in the new year and throughout eternity in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen. ?
I've been there but I can testify that it was only temporary! I never lost my hope. I stayed faithful to God's word that everything is working together for His purposes...not mine!
I want to thank you for being there with your devotionals. It is a privilege to be able to hear a message from God's word any time. I am elderly and live alone, so, sometimes I just need to hear a voice and it's nice to hear about God. Thank you.
